1. What does the clip say to you?

The clip that had been shown today to the class by Mr. Carr said to me is that the people dancing were showing happiness and joy over something that I do not know. Also the clip says to me that the people of the world are uniting as one and finally having world peace and that the main guy is trying to show equality by showing that any person of any country can do the same things as other people can.

2. What Questions would you ask about the clip?

The questions that I would ask about this clip is:

3. Why is this clip being shown right now during this phase of the project?

No idea really. The clip is just out of the blue. Although the clip is inspiring and fun and shows some kind of equality. I will editing this question after Mr. Carr has explained the clip.

1. How do you feel the media portrays social justice issues?

I feel that the media portray social justice issues fairly unjust and the information given is a bit off. They portray it as bad things such as poverty or war. A example of social justice issue is poverty in the world. The media has portrayed poverty as it only happens in Africa through advertisements as well as the internet. IN the advertisements of poverty in the world they would only show videos and images of African children and families in poverty, leaving other countries for example India unknown to have critical amounts of poverty.

2. Has it been difficult to find articles on social justice/Moral issues why/why not?

Through my research it has been difficult to find moral issues as you will have to infer to determine whether the issue is moral or a social justice issue. My issue, the American election was quite difficult to find immoral articles as most of the articles that I would find were just about how the American election is going and who will most likely win the elections.

3. Do you think that the media operates from a moral framework? Give evidence by using your research.

I do think that the media does work within a moral framework but do sometimes go over the boundaries of the framework. An example of the media going outside of their boundaries is that Fox news networks attacked Obama for being a terrorist and how he was a smoker. The Fox networks did not have direct and correct information to back their allegations up so they basically displayed unmoral and unethical journalism. In conclusion I emphasize that the media do stay within their boundaries but do sometimes go outside their boundaries to just sell a good story.

1. analyze why red sunsets can sometimes be more impressive when there is more dust or pollution in the air than usual.

Red sunsets can be more impressive and more stunning to view when there is more dust and pollution in the air because the light of the red sunset that passes through the clouds disperse into the primary clours of the sunset combining them with the original colours to define and make the sunset more impressive.

2. Describe what happens inside water droplets to cause a rainbow and explain how you can tell whether a rainbow is a primary or secondary.

In the droplets of rain light passes through them therefore disperses and creates a massive spectrum, otherwise known as a rainbow. The dispersion occurs because droplet acts like a clear prism and therefore making a dispersion occur for a spectrum to be formed.

Fibre optic technology offers many advantages when used in medical applications.

    a. describe how optical fibre may be used in medical applications

Optical fibers can used in medical applications for example endoscope. Doctors and practitioners use optical fibers as cameras to easily explore the problem. Optical fibers may also be used for communication. Optical fibers can transfer information using the law of internal refraction and so loosing only a limited amount of signal and information during the travel.

    b. identify the traditional medical techniques that optical fibres might replace

One traditional medical method is the examination of the internal structure of the body fro example the doctor may need to look inside the persons body to check if everything is alright, so the doctors organizes an operation for the patient to cut the patient open and examine him like that. With optical fibers the doctor can just weave the optical fiber camera into, and around the person body and instantly see what he needs to see.

    c. Evaluate the benefits of fibre optic technology to medicine

Optical Fiber is a major benefit to medicine because:

What influences your values about issues relating to your life?
The things that influence my values about issues relating my life is mainly the media s they are my eyes around the world and also my parents and my friends. Media mainly shapes my values about issues because I will usually make up my mind very quickly about an image for example, todays activity we had that picture with the family and the hut. I immediately thought that they were in poverty and that they need help to get out of this poverty. But when Mr Hays talked about the image and said that they were happy and that did not live in squatter. I then thought to myself that why did i not think of that. Then I thought to myself. Then I finally realized that the media especially TV influenced that decision. For World Vision advertise in helping people that look like them and also news only show the bad side of Africa where there is poverty. Another influence in my life is my friends and family. Family being the most powerful thought me how to do things and especially taught me moral values.

Do you ever compare images/values presented by the media to those of the bible? If so why? If not why not?

No, not really. I haven’t really compared things in the media to the bible because I immediate presume that the media is always correct except obviously the fictional stories and movies. Media is really a powerful thing, I don’t even think about whether or not the media is right.

Has this project challenged you to examine your values? Why / Why not

Yes, yes this project challend me to look at my values hard because I have realized that everything the media talks about is not the truth and that I should search for the truth. Probably after this project I am going to be a very different person and also will be more cautious in what shapes what i see.

    Journal 3 – How to Critque August 4, 2008

1 .Open and read the “How to write a critique” document in the resources menu.

    Describe what is a critique.

A critique is basically a description rather than an analysis of an article on what i are the critical things to say about it. Description of the article is easier than an analysis of it and the writer basically discuses about the different critical points in the article making opinions about why is it a good/bad place to place it in.

    2. Outline the FOUR stages in a critique.

The four stages of a normal Critique:

    1. Introduction
    2. Summary
    3. Analysis
    4. Evaluation

    3. Can a critique be positive? Discuss.

A critique can be positive. For example the writer of the critique can acknowledge and complement good critical points of an article as well as how the article has been set up. Positive critiques are usually written if the article has been done excellently and was written on a very interesting topic. For example the Beijing Olympics facilities are done to the most interesting way that critiques are saying that their structures are the best display of engineering excellence to date.

    4. Critique the accuracy of the following articles:

The Beijing Olympics: Are They A Trap?
The accuracy of this issue is very in accurate. Some important things is that the woman mentioned that there were dragons and that they have dug holes for American athletes to fall into. The article is basically about a group of presenters make rumors and fake ideals up about the Beijing Olympics. The article is factually incorrect in notice of dragons and stone soldiers coming to life.
2-Year-Old Donkey Called Up To Pro Donkey Basketball League
This article is about a star rookie basketball donkey getting drafted into a major league team. This article does not really give a lot of information on weather this sport is is real. The article treats a 2 yr old donkey as if it was Micheal Jordan. They portrayed him as a superstar getting boosted up the ranks and that this sport is actually real. This article I name it as inaccurate information, just comedy show.

Find TWO current media topics which you consider to be social justice or moral issues.

    1. Name the issue

The issues that I have chosen are as follows:

    2. Describe one media account of this issue

The media account where findings uncover that the Qantas flight that had to make the emergency landing in Manila a few days ago did not have any record on the on board black box of what had happened in the air. I consider this immoral as the black box on the plane could have had the answers that would potential save lives but was overwritten maybe due to the fact that Qantas does not want the public to know that flying with their airlines is not safe. This account is immoral because that black box can save many lives and as well money running investigations.

    3. Where did you get this media account from?

I have found this account from the media TV. Specifically Channel Nine news website.

    4. Is this media account correct or reliable? Why?

I would think this media account is correct and reliable because investigations have been made on the plane about his incident and that the reports of Channel Nine news have reported back live. Also people can acceess sites to counter check if the information is legitimate or made up.

    5. Where else might you be able to find more information about this issue?

The Public can find more information about this media account via the Qantas website which reports to the relatives and loved ones of the passengers what had happened and also people can get more information from Manila Airport website.

    1. Describe TWO things that you have learnt during this lesson.

Two things that I have learnt during today’s lesson is how easily the general public can easily manipulated by the press and media by just changing a small detail in the story. The public does not know what the real story is and what the fake story is.

    2. Identify TWO areas you want to concentrate on during this project that you think need a greater improvement from the last project.

One area that I want to improve on during this is how I do my work. In the previous project when I do my work I will always do it the day before the due date and also I would only do my work just for the sake of doing it. Last project I have not put myself into it and so did not exert effort coming up with a B not an expected A. Another that I need to concentrate on is the work that I do in class. IN the last project i have done most of the project work at home and so I was not able to get help from my teachers or from my group which may have been the difference between an A and a B.

    3. Discuss TWO ways in which your group could resolve any disputes during this process.

Two ways that we can resolves disputes are assign the tasks early in the project to determine whos ding what so there are no confusions on what each members job is. Another solution is to get to know each other, like a fellowship. Doing this gets the students to get to know each other well and so they would be confortable with working with each other.
